Books I read in August

August Books
Chime: Franny Billingsley
Another great YA novel from this author, I was so glad to find more from her as The Folk Keeper is a favourite of mine. Here again we have fairies or Folk but they are a part of the landscape and just want their stories to be told.
find it here

Raven Flight: Juliet Marillier
Book 2. I am  really enjoying this series. Love the interactions with the Folk.

Dancing on Knives: Kate Forsyth
A good yarn, with some Little Mermaid references, I enjoyed it but found it did not have the same resonance and depth as Bitter Greens or The Wild Girl. But still well worth the read.

Finding Serendipity: Angelica Banks ( Heather Rose and Danielle Wood)
A wonderful older children’s book about the magical nature of writing a novel in which you have to travel to the place in which that novel occurs. There were some truly delightful ideas here.
Heather Rose wrote one of my favourite books The River Wife here

The Winter Sea: Di Morrisey
Not a bad yarn, set on the coast south of Sydney, about leaving a marriage and finding yourself.

The Wish List: Jane Costello
Emma is about to turn 30 when she finds a wish list written at 15. I nice fun read.

Lighthouse Bay: Kimberley Freeman
Another novel set by the Australian Beach, this has a nice contrast between 1901 and 2011.

Non Fiction

Personal Geographies: Jill K Berry

How to make maps of any idea. I particularly liked the heart map of Islands.

I am currently in the midst of several non-fiction books that I will list as I finish them.
