Marks on Wax, Samples

I have been sorting through my vast collection of samples
and thought I might just share them
They are all started with a little clear wax
on water colour paper
Some also have some indigo wax
made by dissolving natural indigo powder
straight into the molten clear wax
It is often difficult to make marks directly onto the wax
So I make them onto a sheet of tracing paper
(you can use other paper)
then place it mark side down on the cool wax
and burnish well

This coloured charcoal pencils

Ordinary Bic Biro/Ball point pen

Graphite Stick

Indian Ink applied direct

Charcoal

A carbon paper transfer

This is a small piece of Chinese Joss Paper
placed on the wax burnished well
then wet throughly
and then gently rub off the paper backing

and last copper leaf applied to a raised area of wax

I hope someone benefits
from my samples

Open Studio

This is the cover of the sample book
I have been working on

It is composed prinicaply of teabags
and a semi transparent paper I have
Fully transparent when covered in wax

I am exploring different ways of working with them

Some are fully covered with the teabag and some only partially

Some feature Xanthorrhoea Resn

each has the page cut out behind them
so I can see the light coming through

Stitch

As I am working on a series
that will be framed in old bee frames

I love the detail

when I view them
placed in front of a window

But the detail changes
when the light is removed

Giving a whole different look at night

The reason for all this activity
is the upcoming
Great Southern Art Trail
for which I will be opening my
studio to the public
More details shortly

Above pigments and resin
ready for sale

In The Studio

Thought some of you might be interested in what I have been up to lately
These were done last weekend
They are cradled pine boards which Dan made for me
I have applied a premix plaster
which is totally natural
and then added milk paints
this week I added wax, oil stick,
home made oil paint (indigo, lac, cochineal)
and pigment

Weekend Happenings

The Eagle-Eyed Scouts amongst you
may have noticed a new listing
on the side bar
under Pieces of Me
which lists where my art works can be found
in the real world

This isa lovely gallery in my town of
called
located in the Denmark Visitors Centre
and they are now stocking me.

I popped in on my way home on Friday
to take a picture of the display
Impressive!!!!

And this a not very good photo
of my output at home on the weekend.
Sticking with just thread, white wax,
lamp black oil stick and handmade indigo oil paint
it is amazing what you can do
though perhaps the fact that
I am working over old work
is a helpful underbase.
And now I am back in town
for another week of
preparing workshop samples.

Egg on paper and wax fun

These are a couple of the pages of watercolour paper that I use to brush the egg onto my leaves as you can see when popped into the dye pot they come up beautifully. After a good drying and a few days of curing I have now covered them in hot wax and used them as book covers which have waxwd handmade pages.

And this is a first wax piece exploring excavation. The toxic yellow is an example of why not to use zinc white in this instance.

And this is the end result with just a little yellow now covered with titanium white.

A little display

and this one has excavation on one side a strip of handmade paper down the centre and some nice scratching on the right.
I am having so much fun with the online wax class with Judy Wise, there is a link on my sidebar for anyone wanting to check it out.
